As to calculation of the JEE Main 2019 Rank, here are Few things students ought to understand

  • For candidates who have appeared for both January and April examinations of JEE Main, NTA would pick up the better of the two NTA scores. This would be the overall NTA Scores. In case the NTA scores are similar, NTA would then follow the same principal as would be used for deciding a tie for JEE Main Rank. This is to provide the benefit to the student for the same. For students who have appeared only for one examination (either January or April), their NTA scores would be considered.
  • Based on the NTA score, the JEE Main 2019 Rank would be calculated and category wise list released. In case the NTA scores of the candidates tie, then higher rank would be given to
    1. Candidates who have higher NTA score in Mathematics
    2. Candidates who have higher NTA score in Physics
    3. Candidate who is older
    4. In case the candidates tally even after the above three, then the same rank would be awarded to the candidates.

Along with the result and rank, NTA would also release whether or not the candidate has qualified for JEE Advanced 2019. The cut off would also be shared by the agency. Remember, the number 2, 45,000 is not absolute. More number of students (based on the cut off and rank) may be selected for the examination which is now scheduled for May 23, 2019.

JEE-2019: Common mistakes JEE aspirants should avoid at any cost

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is the most difficult engineering entrance exam for admission to top institutes in India. JEE consists of Main and Advanced papers.

JEE Main is being held twice in 2019 (January and April). It is a difficult exam and aspirants must ensure there are no flaws in their preparation strategy. Here are some JEE mistakes to avoid at any cost

Don’t start preparation late, have a proper study plan

One of the biggest mistakes JEE aspirants make is starting their preparation late. They must start preparing early so that they have enough time and a systematic approach to cover the entire syllabus. They must know the latest syllabus, exam pattern, weightage, etc. One must plan their study properly and adhere to their schedule. They should focus more on important ones as per weightage.

Do not ignore NCERT books and basic concepts

Some JEE aspirants tend to study only from study material and advanced reference books and ignore basic concepts. However, one must avoid doing this as basics are important. Instead of consulting too many books, they should collect some useful books to avoid confusion. They should first be thorough with NCERT books and then move on to advanced reference books.

Not solving previous papers or not taking mock tests

Another mistake aspirants must avoid is not solving previous question papers and sample papers. They should solve question papers in a timed manner to familiarise with the exam pattern, difficulty level, questioning trends, etc. and manage time better.

They should take mock tests (especially NTA mocks) and analyse their performance on a regular basis, identify weak areas, and work on improving their performance.

Here are some mistakes to avoid during the exam

One of the biggest mistakes students during the exam is not reading the given questions properly. Students tend to misread questions in a hurry or copy incorrect data and end up giving wrong answers. They might also make mistakes in calculations or get confused. This should be avoided too. They should answer only those questions they are confident about to avoid negative marking.

Avoid getting stuck on difficult questions in exam

During the exam, students must also utilise time wisely. They may also find some questions difficult; in such situations, they should avoid getting stuck on those questions as it would be a waste of their time. Instead, they should move on to the remaining questions.

There are two stages in the selection process. For NTSE Stage-I, Selection is done by States/UTs through a written examination. Students, who Qualify Stage- I, are eligible to appear for NTSE Stage-II examination. Every year about 1.5 lac students appear for the exam in Rajasthan. Out of which 257 students are selected according to the State Quota. These candidates are selected for the final exam. Now state quota has got doubled to 485. Increase in IIT placements a result of aggressive industry outreach

The placement season at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) this year brought good news. An overall increase was seen in the number of students getting placed in world’s top companies, with more number of students finding a place in the R&D, electrical, mechanical and computer science sectors.

In the first four days of first placement session, the companies made as many as 3000 job offers, including pre placement offers (PPO) in all the 23 IITs. As compared to 2017, there has been an increase of 30% placements. “This indicates an overall growth in various sectors. The economy is growing and it is reflected in the increasing job opportunities for the students,” said V Ramgopal Rao, IIT Delhi Director.

IITs have become quite aggressive in terms of industry outreach in the last two years, which eventually has helped the institutes to study the industry demands and prepare students for the market.

“We are trying to bridge the gap between the curriculum and the industry demands. For instance, this year Industry Day at IIT Delhi had over 300 companies reaching out to students. So, it is a reflection of how we are reaching out to the industry and connecting with closely, which in turn is getting churning out more employment opportunities,” he says.

According to reports, a US based company offered a package of Rs 1.52 crore to four IIT BHU students. Microsoft hired atleast six students from IIT Roorkee and Kanpur, on an annual package of Rs 1.5 crore. While the officials were reluctant to divulge the details, but they confirmed the high salary offer and good placements were positive indications.

The decision to not reveal the details of the students, says Rao, has been made to avoid undue pressure on the rest of the students.

“By talking about pay packages, we tend to put unnecessary pressure on the students, who wish to pursue careers in other sectors or want to go in for Masters and research,” says Rao.Around 70% students opted for core sectors as against IT, which is an optimistic trend seen this year. “Not all sectors offer similar kind of pay packages. The students must understand that an electrical engineering company will not pay as Google does,” adds the director.

“The good news is that 50% job offers made in the first session, were from the core sector. This indicates that the core sectors are seeing a substantial growth.” Other than Microsoft, companies such as Optum (SDE), Axtria, Honetwell, Indshine, Tata Communications, Tata Steel, HCL, ZS Associates, Novarites, IVP and Smart Cube, L&T ECC, Amazon, Microsoft, Assanjob have hired students across IITs in this placement session.
